Retro TV Friday: The Wuzzles!

7:50 AM Posted by CalgaryDaddy

In my old age, I find that I am getting fonder of the cartoons that I liked to watch as a kid! As usual on my Retro TV Friday posts, I try to share some love with the obscure cartoons from the 1980's.  Does anyone remember the Wuzzles? I remember some of the characters, but mostly remember my Aunt Iris buying me the BumbleLion stuffed toy when I was 7 or 8 years old when she came to Calgary for a visit.

Wuzzles features a variety of short, rounded animal characters (each called a Wuzzle, which means to mix up). Each is a roughly even, and colorful, mix of two different animal species (as the theme song mentions, "...livin' with a split personality"), and all the characters sport wings on their backs. All of the Wuzzles live on the Isle of Wuz. Double species are not limited to the Wuzzles themselves. From the appleberries they eat to the telephonograph in the home, or a luxury home called a castlescraper, nearly everything on Wuz is mixed together in the same way the Wuzzles are. ( From: Wikipidia)

Some of the characters were:

  • Bumblelion: Half bumblebee and half lion
  • Butterbear: Half bear and half butterfly
  • Eleroo: Half elephant and half kangaroo
  • Rhinokey: Half rhinoceros and half monkey.
  • Moosel: Half moose, half seal

What a neat idea for characters!  I am surprised that Disney has not tried to bring this show back for another generation!

Happy Weekend!

Heck Ya I remember The Wuzzles. I had one that I gave my childhood best friend and she ended up moving away and she gave it to me to remember her and she cried on it. I still have it somewhere. I used to sleep with it all the time.
