Wordless Wednesday! Kyron Meets His Great Grandma

8:32 AM Posted by CalgaryDaddy

A few weeks ago, Kyron's Great-Grandma came to Calgary for Becky's mom's surprise birthday party!  I was fortunate enough to meet my Great-Grandma also, which is pretty rare.  I know can see where Becky and Kyron get their pretty blue eyes from!   Kyron just loved her!

So Cool......

Bugalug Childrens Accessories...Its a Cinch!

8:22 AM Posted by CalgaryDaddy

I love having the opportunity to share cool products with my readers!  I often get asked to spread the word about certain products that would be a great fit for many parents that read my blog, so I was really excited when I had the opportunity to do a review for Bugalug's Cinch Belts!  While Kyron is only 5 months old, we have a ton of friends that have children who would love this cool product.  Thinking that they would be a perfect fit, I asked our good friend Sherry to try this product with her 3 year old daughter, Elisha.

Its a Cinch!

Toddler’s tiny middles make it hard to find exactly the right size pants that stay up just right. Bugalug’s new innovative cinch belts put the stop on the slip and slide pant waist. The cinch belts were designed with both parent and child in mind. The belts have elastic built into them, which helps to keep pants up while still keeping the pants comfortable and flexible. The elastic also allows the little one the ability to pull their pants on and off without having to struggle with a traditional belt. All belts are reversible and sport Bugalug’s exclusive unique designs!

Sherry confirmed that this belt is so practical and easy to use and that her daughter Elisha LOVES this look of this belt!! Even at three years old, she is a bit of a fashionista!

About Bugalug

Sundi Hoffman, an entrepreneurial mother of two from Calgary, AB ( My Hometown!!)  has made it her mission to create accessories for little girls and boys that are not only adorable, but 100 per cent Canadian (all products are hand-made by Canadian stay-at-home moms). Since the creation of her very first product, Bugalug Barrettes (which won her the coveted title of SavvyMom’s Mom Entrepreneur of the Year Award for the Prairies in 2008), Hoffman’s Bugalug has been targeted as one of Canada’s up and coming companies chosen to provide her products to the likes of Halle Berry, Jessica Alba, Courtney Cox and Angelina Jolie - to name a few!

Bugalug products can be found in more than 375 stores across Canada and four other countries – a number that continues to grow each month. The company is also branching out into the United States and Taiwan and is looking at Japan, Australia, and South Africa. For more information and to purchase products, visit http://www.bugalugbaby.com/.

Thanks to Sherry and Elisha for helping me with this review and post!

 Shane

( Note: I received a sample Bugalug Cinchbelt at no cost to do a review on.  I was not compensated for my review and the thoughts on this post are mine and those of the people who tried the product!)

First Day of Summer Kick-Off! Baby Banz Sunglasses Review and Giveaway!

10:06 AM Posted by CalgaryDaddy

 Summer Is Finally Here!

With the long awaited arrival of Summer ( yes, its true.... we do get summer in Canada!) Becky and I hope to spend as much time outside with Kyron as possible.  As new parents to a five month old baby, we have to be careful about the amount of sun that Kyron gets in his eyes and protect him from too much UV exposure.  I was impressed when I came across a pair of Baby Banz sunglasses in a local children's store and think that this product is amazing!

  About  Baby Banz....

In 2001, Baby Banz, Inc. found its start in "the land down under," one of the harshest UV climates in the world. One Australian’s fruitless search for a proper pair of baby sunglasses for his infant son forced him to take action, leading to the development of the Original Baby Banz sunglasses.

First introduced to the American market in 2002, Baby Banz are best known for their unique wrap-around, banded design and 100% UV protective lenses. Often imitated, but never duplicated, Baby Banz continue to be the standard for baby and children's sunglasses and UV protection worldwide.

Baby Banz are the keystone for the expanding Baby Banz Protection Collection that includes: adjustable baby and toddler sun hats, UPF 50 swimwear and flap hats, our cool new Retro Banz and for winter, mirrored Ski Banz. Baby Banz sells its Protection Collection line nationwide in a variety of outlets including optical and specialty baby stores.

Here are some pictures of Kyron and his pair of Baby Banz....

Cool or what?

Becky and I make sure that Kyron wears his Baby Banz everytime we go out.  Especially in Calgary ( aka Sunshine City...) where we get the most days of sunshine per year of any Canadian city!

Cool Features:

Apart from the UV protection and cool look of these glasses, we really love the wrap around strap!  As an active baby, Kyron loves to throw things out of his carseat...but this strap keeps the glasses on his head and in place at all times!   There really is nothing like this on the market today!

Baby Banz has a full assortment of products that offer amazing protection.  They can be purchased at a store near you or online at http://usa.babybanz.com/ .  And at under $20/pair, these glasses are an amazing value!

CalgaryDaddy.com In The News!

8:49 AM Posted by CalgaryDaddy

Happy Friday everyone!  I was so excited when I received an email last week from Lauren La Rose of the Canadian Press asking if I would be interested in doing an interview for a story she was working on about Dad Bloggers!  The interview went well and they sent a photographer over to take a few pics of my and Kyron to include in the story.

The story went on the wire earlier this week and is getting picked up across the country from various newspapers. Here is a link to the story...

Retro TV Friday: The Wuzzles!

7:50 AM Posted by CalgaryDaddy

In my old age, I find that I am getting fonder of the cartoons that I liked to watch as a kid! As usual on my Retro TV Friday posts, I try to share some love with the obscure cartoons from the 1980's.  Does anyone remember the Wuzzles? I remember some of the characters, but mostly remember my Aunt Iris buying me the BumbleLion stuffed toy when I was 7 or 8 years old when she came to Calgary for a visit.

Synopsis:
Wuzzles features a variety of short, rounded animal characters (each called a Wuzzle, which means to mix up). Each is a roughly even, and colorful, mix of two different animal species (as the theme song mentions, "...livin' with a split personality"), and all the characters sport wings on their backs. All of the Wuzzles live on the Isle of Wuz. Double species are not limited to the Wuzzles themselves. From the appleberries they eat to the telephonograph in the home, or a luxury home called a castlescraper, nearly everything on Wuz is mixed together in the same way the Wuzzles are. ( From: Wikipidia)

Some of the characters were:

  • Bumblelion: Half bumblebee and half lion
  • Butterbear: Half bear and half butterfly
  • Eleroo: Half elephant and half kangaroo
  • Rhinokey: Half rhinoceros and half monkey.
  • Moosel: Half moose, half seal

What a neat idea for characters!  I am surprised that Disney has not tried to bring this show back for another generation!

Happy Weekend!

Smoking Two Year Old Baby...Unreal! ( Coming soon to a Circus Near You?)

2:12 PM Posted by CalgaryDaddy

Some of you may have seen this footage, but I thought it was too good not to share!  When I read about this in the paper last week, I was disgusted.  When I actually saw the footage, I must admit that after I laughed and questioned the authenticity of this story, I got a little angry!

This kid is smoking like a pro! 40 Cigarettes a day...how does his body handle this?  What the heck is going on here?  On top of his tobacco addiction, it looks like the tyke is have a little too much take out!  To make things worse, his parents appear to be encouraging this behavior....Wow.

 Here is the video...

I hope this kid gets help as soon as possible.  I can imagine his family salivating at the thought of making a ton of money from him be lending him to the summer fair circuit and taking a cut of the admission fees.Who are we to judge?

Just when I think I have seen it all, something like this pops up and shocks me!

Wow.....
