Explaining Canada to Americans

It is a stereotype here in Canada that the Americans know nothing about us, but we know everything about them! I am not sure that it is entirely true. We do not live in igloos. The weather in Calgary this has been better than in most of the USA, so we do not live in a frozen tundra! A few yeara ago there was a CBC comedy documentary by comedian Rick Mercer called "Talking to Americans" that has helped fuel this fire! Here are a few clips of that show....tooooo funny!
Iowa Governor Congratulating Canada on the 24 Hour Clock
Here is a classic with Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee... wow!
And I cant forget George Bush thanking Prime Minister "Poutine" Check at 3:41 ( The PM at the time was Jean Cretien. "Poutine" is a French Canadian food...think French Fries, Gravy and Cheese Curds...) and Canada for being the USA's most important "neighbor to the north" of them. What? Oh well.... The rest of the video is classic, showing people congratulating Canada on legalizing staplers, finishing the tunnel to China and encouraging us to get our first newspaper! It goes on and on...you cannot make this stuff up!
I really do love all my American readers and think that these videos are made just in fun. ( Perhaps I am being cheeky due to the Team USA victory over Canada on Sunday?) I am sure the producers edited out the correct answers, lol. In my travels to the USA, most people know lots about Canada and my city Calgary, which always shocked me.
Truth be told, the two counties are pretty much the same. Same TV, same culture. We just have higher taxes, no guns, and free health care!

PS! My friend Jill started a blog!!! She is the funniest lady I know, so it is an awesome read! Check it out and tell her what you think!

I have to say I have always loved Canadians. Not to stereotype, but they're so FRIENDLY! I met a bunch of them while on a cruise (the ship was like, 70% Canadian) and they were all so nice (and talkative).
I am also jealous of your healthcare system and your maternity leave!!! Here, asking for my 12 weeks of FMLA, I felt like I was asking my boss if I could have one of his organs.

Considering I live in Minnesota, it is rather sad that I've only been to Canada one time. it is such a beautiful country. Oh, and I am emailing you!

Mr. Poutine, hilarious. I've seen many of these, but this is the first time I saw that one.

Nice clips! I think it's so funny how every nightly news show/morning show here is running these "Canada" lessons. The other morning the Today Show actually had a segment on Poutine. But then they put a fried egg on top and I wanted to eat it. It became less funny, more hungry.
